Watchin wheeler dealers about a morgan and they got a galvanized chasis an was thinking would that be better for keeping rust at bay than powercoating

I know its only in grey but if that means theres no rust for a long time its work it

id guess so , just because it wont chip like powder, thats not based on any knowlage by the way, just my 2p , only downside being you widhave to scrape off the galv or powder to weld, id just go with loads of paint , and work touching it up into your mantinance scedual

why would you have to weld it if you have had it galvanised??? and i am going to get my subframe galvenised on my project car but i am also going to paint it black so that it wont actually look like it has been galvenised.

with a galvenised subframe its not gonna begin to rust for a considerable amount of time, you have to remeber how long many subframes actually lasted on production minis and they were only painted so i highly doubt theres much chance of the subframe rustin be4 any other parts of the car and will be much less labour intensive than repeatedly paintin the subframe

aha i get that itll take ages to rust whatever you do , was just trying to weigh them up, and also depends how often you have your front end off etc, slapping on a bit of stone chip and hammerite isnt any hardship realy

I'm sure from what I have read on this forum and this subject, that galvanising will twist warp a subframe, unless you put it in a jig to prevent this, I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will confirm soon enough

I am not convinced that it will distort during the galvanising process. The company doing the galvanising will be able to advise.

people have had subframes galved and in some cases it did distort but others its turned out fine , take it somewhere that does chassis ect would be your best bet, as they will know how to deal with items that could twist best

I was looking into getting my subframes powder coated. I think galvanised metal does still rust, but is it called white rust? Which happens If not painted or coated. I think it's something to do with the zinc it's dipped in. Which also makes welding a bit more tricky due to the smoke and fumes when welding galvanised.

It's very early and don't really know what I'm on about, so I could be completely wrong haha
