Hi,

Been thinking about micra conversion for a while. The problem i'm facing is that there doesn't seem to be that many of them around, engines and full cars seem to be high priced and rare, 700 plus. There's loads of 1l engines for 80 pound but non 1.3!
So, I've been thinking is it worth looking at the vauxhall 1.4 16v engine? Or better if i wait for a micra to turn up. I'm not sure if the modern micra engine will do the same job? (from the newer model?)

thanks

Depends on what work you can do yourself? For a Vauxhall engine you can buy an already made kit. For the micra you will have to build your own. I would also recommend that you buy a full donor car and not bit by bit. I did it that way and has worked out more expensive as I keep finding things that I am missing. The vauxhall engine conversion is tried and tested. The hard work has been done for you by companies such as Allspeed.

The micra engines that have been fitted are the CG and MA series engines. My current university project is looking and designing a micra frame for mass manufacture and assembly along with doing all the FEA work for regulation compliance.

I would ask yourself why do you want to do an engine conversion. This will allow you to decide what kind of power level you want and to choose and engine with available gearboxes that have suitable gear ratios.

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I've done engine conversions before, ka 1.8 16v zetec. So I'm use to fabricating and stripping and rebuilding.

Main reason is, to uprate to a 5 speed gearbox and reliable power. Hence, why i only want to stick with 1.3 or 1.4 engines at the moment.

I wish you luck with your university project. Are you progressing well with it?

thanks
Andrew

I hae no experiance with the vaux engines but I've done both micra and vtec.

With the micra I bought a complete 1.0 car made the frame etc then found a 1.3 engine separate

Whole car £250
1.3 engine £80

Hopefully I'll sell all the spare bits I got left which should make me most of the cost back
