Hey guys, so I got my new Head Unit wired up and fitted. It works absolutely fine when the car is stood still, but as soon as I start moving, it randomly cuts out and turns back on! I checked the connections (from car to head unit) and made sure they were secure and they seem fine.. It normally comes back on when I decelerate as well? Very odd...any bright ideas would be much appreciated! :)

my head unit kept switching itself off and on when my battery was on its way out due to lack of power but this does sound like a connection problem

Where is the ground wire normally? I've read various articles on the web and a lot of them mention the ground/earth wire being the problem. Cheers guys :)

Check the ground on the head unit. Make sure it's well grounded to the frame. The nut holding the Steering colmn works good and is close to the dash.
Also check the Battery ground and leads as well. (Usually a thicker black wire next to a Red Power wire and a Blue secondary power)

If you have a multimeter (can be picked up for a cheap as $5.00 on amazon) check the voltage of the battery with the car turned off, then again running.
If there isn't a change or a drop you may want to have a look at your alternator it may need repair or have a wiring issue. If your voltage drops when your driving your head unit will shut off as well as a few other electrical based things may not work right as well.

I had a similar problem and it was sourced down to the fact that the head unit hadn't been made fully... It was alpine so wasn't a cheapie... Just an idea to watch out for

Well I just tried earthing it to the steering column and no luck unfortunately..I'm taking it to a mate who's an electrician tomorrow so hopefully he can shed some light on the problem! :S

I just installed my ICE system yesterday and discovered I needed to run a ground wire from the HU chassis to the car. Even with the regular ground wire.

I've done it to most units I have installed just to help with ground noise. But I never seen it as a requirement. What unit was it?

It's a Pyle Nostalgic. It looks like a 70's AM/FM car radio but has a usb and SD card slot as well as an MP3 input. It has a grounding bolt on the rear chassis as well as a regular ground wire.

With cover closed. I used to have it in my motorcycle fairing.

Did not work without it? Or did it say to use it in the manule??

As I've seen and used many rear chassis mounts but never seen one you HAVE to use... Anyway not important but just interesting to know.

I have this problem when using lights and wipers with my stereo on.

Might be worthwhile making sure your fanbelt is correctly adjusted to ensure your altenator has the best chance of producing a good charge, mine had gotten wet and was slipping causing the same symptoms as yours.
