Been wanting to get myself an ipod speaker dock for a while but all the decent ones are just too expensive! So decided to do something a bit different and just make one.

Don't really having any before and after pictures as i just dived right into it and made it today... and all my mates want me to make them one!

Basically searched the old ebay for an old boombox/ghettoblaster, ended up getting myself a sharp QT27 for 20 sheets. I'm sure there are others available but i just liked this one because it was red >_< and you can put batteries in it too so it's portable which is a bonus too

Got myself a apple universal dock with remote:

Decided on a place to mount it, thought about putting it on top but the radio buttons were in the way, and i think the position that its in now is a much better solution.. just inside the cassette holder.
I cut up an old chinese box lid and made a base for the dock to sit on and made a couple 90degreee brackets and super glued it all together and jobs a goodun'

Then getting it work, things got a bit more complicated. i was planning on wiring the speakers into a 3.5mm jack which would plug into the back of the dock, but luckily on the back of the stereo theres plugs for 2 microphones. One each for the right and left speaker. At the moment it's only running through one speaker as i only had one double end jack cable so i need to buy a splitter and another cable. Unfortunantly they dont make a male sing to double double ended jack cable [bit of a mouthful lol]

Then removed the bit that actually playes the cassettes as it's no longer needed, it's heavy, takes up room, and the motor is noisy. Then for the mics to work it needs to be in tape mode instead of radio, and also the play button needs to be down. When you press the button down it makes the contacts on the switch which allows the mics to work, so bypassed the switch and joined the cables together and made the cables that were going to the motor safe.

Put it alltogether and she works a treat and looks awesome too!

Probably going to get some better speakers for it. And possibly upgrade the amplifiers as they're a bit noisy and old. But i might do this by just swapping over the insides from my logitech pc speakers which has a sub too! :D

looks brilliant. This might help for upgrading the amp. http://diyaudioproje...wforum.php?f=10
