Hi, my mini has been off the road for nearly a year. When I last used it there was an issue with the fan starting to fowl the cowling. This got worse as I found the front engine bushes needed replacing. These are now replaced but the noise just got worse.
I took the radiator and cowling out, the plastic blades were chewed away an inch and the cowling wont line up anywhere near where it should. Nothing looks bent at the bottom bracket for the cowling (but I havent got anything to compare it too). Its a good inch out from where it should be.
I spoke to my mechanic about it who was as mystified as I was. I asked if the engine could of dropped on one side causing the issue with the lack of alignment on the radiator side but he said no. He said it could be due to fitting an aftermarket alloy radiator but its the cowling that catches the mechanical fan, whether the rad is fitted or not.
I really need this car moving for the summer but im stumped now, Any advice or photos of the bottom bracket side for the cowling for a 1275 auto mini would be helpful...
Cheers,
Russell (Bristol)

I had to trim the blades on my fan a tiny bit for some reason using the standard rad, cowling and 11 blade pastic fan. It still cought a bit, but after a few moments the cowling trimmed off the remaining so now it does not catch at all.

Ok i perhaps the most random problem ever... I *believe* the engine mounting bracket has sheared somehow... either way it doesnt look right. I attached two photos that help explain!... ahh no i wont? I cant upload?

That bracket looks to be butchered to bits.
This shows a new one.

Hope it helps.

to me the engine mount jus to right of the pic looks in a very poor state and this could cause the engine be slightly lower than it should it always looks like it has delaminated to not actually holding the engine in apart from gravity and top steady bar

Put a jack under that end of the transmission, and take the mount and the bracket out for inspection, to see if it is broken. It also needs a good clean in that area, so now is your chance.
Also, check with the Somerford Mini web site that you have a correct combination of bits.
The rubber does indeed look rather poor, but that is not the main problem, as it would only let the radiator sag together with the engine, so the fan would still be in the correct place. But Minis need new engine mounts periodically, so it makes sense to change both of them while you are doing work in that area.
