Nothing's wrong with autos. It's just to many of us, they work by witchcraft, so we can't contribute much to techie questions about them. Surely it's better if they are over keen to get going rather than the other way round, is the idle speed set correctly?

I've got an auto and the idle speed is sub 1k, probably around 850 (last time I was at MLM it was anyway).
The car will still creep forwards but doesn't want to drive itself at least

Autos are great. I have one too :).
Mine does what your describing. It has a fine idle ( it's too harsh when selecting a gear if it's high)
When you select gear the revs rise very slightly allowing the car to pull away slowly with no revs with out struggling like an auto should

You need to keep an eye on that oil leak
These gearboxes use the engine oil as hydraulic oil too. So if it's lacking oil. The box will start playing up.
Like I said its not a bad thing your mini is still trying to go slightly When it's sat in gear with the brake on. However if it is pulling harder than your brakes can hold then the governer & idle needs
adjusting. The gear box juddering & slight clonking is not un common but if you start experiencing heavy clonks , squeals or slipping. Then obviously you have a problem.
