hi, having trouble getting my drive shaft outta of the cv joint, the hubs r off the car and it says in haynes to hold the drive shaft vertical and hit the cv joint with a soft faced malet, whcih ive done and broke my dads malet lol but the shaft is still there and didnt budch, has anybody had trouble with this before?? and tips??

just replaced a outer cv joint & boot yesterday....
i left the shaft connected to the inner pot joint & into the diff...
i then clamped a large pair of vise grips on the drivshaft at the other side of the subframe... these acted as a stop to prevent the shaft being pulled out of the diff...
ideally you need 3 hands & try to hold the cv joint square to the shaft so that any hammer action does it's job instead of putting twisting stress on the drive shaft .
if it's that tight then you should also replace the clip on the end of the shaft afterwards as it might get damaged while you are removing the joint.

well im replacing the shafts anyways, gona take them work tomoz and use the vise,

you need a lump hammer and give it a proper smack, it wont budge if you're tickling it with a toffee hammer

very true, these little pests need a good whack!!!

when i did it the first time i was trying so hard to be gentle but as my dad showed me you don't need to be that gentle.

well haynes said a soft faced hammer, and i was hitting it that hard i broke the hammer, ive got a nice big lump hammer that will give it a seeing to!!!
