i know the water pump is right on the die of the motor below head, seems simple to replace, but how hard is it to replace the oil pump and can it be done with motor in car?
how long do oil pumps usually last?

an oil pump cannot be replaced with engine in the car as you have to remove the end case from the engine and this is where once of the engine mounts is, so defo engine out to replace oil pump. and as for how long they last, theres minis still on the road with original engines and the youngest of these are 12 years old so realistically they rarely fail be4 other components as long as oil is regularly changed as the oil pump actually sucks unfilterd oil.

mini oil pumps dont tend to fail instantaiously they jus gradually reduce in effciency so if you want to try and see the oil pumps health an oil pressure gauge would be a good way to see and some one on here will tell you what a good pressure would be and if it is too low it would defo be engine out and rebuild as low oil pressure can cause quite serious damage.

and what about a timing chain, when should it be replaced and is it hard? i know crankshaft comes off, then timing cover, do the gears slide off and i swap new ones on making sure i dont rotate the cam or crank? and reassemble

The oil pump is EASILY changed with the engine in the car - just pop the transfer casing off, and it's right there! And yes - timing chain is similarly accessed at the other end of the engine, obviously...... - but probably best not to attempt both at the same time............

You don't need 70 amps unless for night rallying? The wiring will need to be uprated for such a generator - and the fan belt will be marginal for transmitting thje power required. Standard belt (NOT the silly cogged one) - but do carry a spare and the tools to fit it!
