Oil Leak

i own a 1984 mayfair automatic i can only drive using 1,2,3, only. i drive 17 miles to work no problem 8 hours later drive 17 miles home, oil in engine bay drivers side (use motor way to and from work 50 mph only). when i got the mini a pipe was of from carb no leak, local garage said it was a breather pipe and put it back on now leak was he right or should i take pipe off again please help i love my mini :shy: thank you

The breather pipe from the carb should have nothing to do with this as it's not related. You mention there is oil in the drivers side engine bay? Where in the bay exactly are you noticing it? Is it on the front of the engine, & are you sure it's oil? There are a lot of hydraulics running around the drivers side could be related to that, let us know where exactly you're seeing this 'oil'.

thanks petehuws for your reply, the oil is on the bulkhead where the heater pipe goes in to the cab, i have noticed a few drips coming of the pipe on to the carpet. it has also gone through 3 liters of oil in a week. i use the car to go to work 35 miles round trip. there are a few drops under the car 50 pence size
