To get that much from a Mini you either need forced induction or 16 valves really otherwise you'll have a really highly stressed engine. To get a 150 BHP engine built proffesionally is going to end up costing around £7-8000 I think to get a complete package.

If you're only 18 then I suggest you get some driving experience before you start 'making your car go faster'.

Plus any modifications whatsoever to the car will put your (I suspect already ridiculously high premiums) through the roof.

Probably not the answer you were looking for that's speaking from a grown up point of view.

Well said minislapper.

And once youve got that experience then stage 1 kit is a good starting point.

S/S Exhaust
K&N Panel Filter
Stage 3 head
1.5:1 Rockers
Pretty Tame Cam

= ~90bhp

That's as far as you can go on the standard injection gubbins.

dont get panel get k&n 57i
and dont get a cam either. if its not done properly it just wont work.
de-cat and manifold will help.

This is what i've got
kn 57i
minisport twin box exhaust
decat pipe
front link pipe
manflow manifold
stage 3 head
1.5 to 1 roller rockers
and power boost valve

mine has seen 98bhp and 98 lbft on the rollers at minisport but i reckon 90 is a safe bet.

Cost of modifying can add up VERY quickly, so i suggest doing one thing at a time, that way you'll feel the difference every time you upgrade...very satisfying. I think the people going on about getting 'driving experience' are jumping the gun a little as you already said you don't want to spend 8k and get a rocket ship. Adding an exhaust etc is going to give you tiny increases over a long period of time.

Get yourself a good exhaust, Maniflow if you can afford it, to start with. You'll be happy with it and it's a great base to continue modifying on.

couldnt agree more.

After some years experience go to vmaxscart and get a supercharger fitted, its the easiest and quickest way to the best bhp from the mpi.
