before i took the engine out i noticed that my speedo stopped working so when i took the engine out checked the cable and the end nearest gear box had twisted and snapped so I'm think clocks have gone tight cause if it was a problem at the gearbox side I'm guessing it wouldn't have snapped cause it wouldn't have been moving? right....
anyway so how do i free up the clock?

Could be the cable has seized up. You can test the speedo with a reverse running electric drill - with a little square bit of course.
