I have a 1980 mini 1000 with a pre a+ engine, it was parked up for 12 years and one bore has had water in and has rusted it solid. I have a spare 998 A+ engine, what will I need to alter to fit this engine ?

Im taking this option unless a cheap pre a + turns up local .

I think they fit the same, clutch may be slightly different if one is pre- verto and the other is verto, but other than that it should be all the same!

well the ancillaries are the same so I would be inclined to use them off the pre a+ as the loom for it is there already,

Straight swop - engine for engine. Keep all the original gearbox/transfer casing/transfer gears/flywheel/starter motor/dizzy etc etc.

are the starter motors the same ?? If not then you will need a slight rewire nothing major.
And don't swap starters the teeth on the flywheel are different

Which is why I suggest to keep ALL the original flywheel/starter etc - ONLY change the engine (block assy + head) - using ALL the original parts from the car.

I'd go for whatever is in the best condition - if there's nothing to choose on that front, go for the A+.
