In the early 1970's on the Mk3 and Clubman. Early Mk3 and Clubmans still had the ignition switch mounted in the switch panel. There were some Mk2 models for certain export markets that had steering locks fitted, but none for the UK.

Didn't really need steering lock in them days, as there was not many thieving b£$^%&*ds about like there is today, I never even bothered locking my doors back 70's.

It depends where the car was built for - even Mk 1s in Sweden had a steering lock.

Not really as the key is in the centre of the dash panel, not on the steering column. You could fit a Mk.3 steering column a nd re-wire to suit, but it would look very different.
Actually it took about 20 seconds to steal a Mk.1 850. You open the bonnet and put a small coin across the fuses which puts the ignition on, break the door lock by putting a short piece of tube on it and lever down, then get in and press the floor starter button!

My mk1 has a steering lock fitted on the original column. It's an old aftermarket addition.

I doubt you could buy a new one, it was probably added in the 70's. You could probably break it buy leaning on it a bit hard.
