So i'm soon to be fitting my new dash that I've made.. but one thing is bugging me. It doesn't seem as though the air vent bezels will reach to screw onto the vent once the new dash is in place!?

any help or suggestions?

You can buy corrogated plastic tubes. Look a bit like big black plastic springs that extend from the back of the air vent to the bulkhead. Id link it for you but im on my phone sorry mate...

do they have to be mini specific or can it be any so long as the diameter is roughly correct?

As long as the diameter is about the same id imagine. Theyre only used as an extension for the tubes so as long as you arent getting any air escaping i cant see why not ;-)

Get rid of the air vents, they do nothing unless you are moving over 40 and add to loads of road noise

I did think about replacing them with speakers. How would you blank out the holes though?

I replaced mine with speakers, 10cm ones fit perfectly in the spots. I did consider blocking the holes behind the speakers but never bothered, the air still comes from under the dash. I do actually have 2 of the tubes you need which i have no use for. I could send them to you if you like?

That's the route I've gone for now mate.. just got some cheap vibe audio ones for now, not the best but they'll do until I'm a bit better off financially. Do you not get cold feet having the vents open all the time? :P

I know you can get proper blanking plates but I guess you could just bodge something over them to cover it.. lol! :shifty:

Some old vacuum cleaner hose works well if you can find roughly the right diameter :D

As long as they are close you can use duct tape to attach them to the vent inlets. then pipe the other ends under the dash to the cabin.

Yeah I thought of that.

I need to seal up the heater inlet that comes through the wing, as that lets water in! >_<

Apart from providing ventilation into the car and significantly reducing condensation that is!

The standard mini heater has only one fresh air intake, meaning it recirculates 50% of its air from inside the car. Unless you permanently drive with a window open, blocking off the air vents causes damp air inside the car to be recirculated, causing condensation problems and adding to corrosion problems.

I

do they have to be mini specific or can it be any so long as the diameter is roughly correct?

I have a spare set of these unused dash air vent tubes from custom consoles that I don't need, if you're interested.
