Generally look good, but only in race cars, it's not good to fit them in road cars, because if you crash there is a lot of heavy metal for you to smash your head on

Do you mean for competition use or just for the sake of having a cage? because my answer would change depending on its use!! You see its fine to fit a cage into a clasic mini if its there for a reason and you have decent harneses and a helmet..but if its just for show then it might cause you more harm than good in an accident!!

As with above, I love the mini race/ rally look, but not in a road car unless there are proper seats, harnesses and padding fitted due to the danger they pose without these.

Dont carry passengers at the back, plus you and your passenger should wear an helmet, smacking the head on the cage can be very dangerous..

Your head will burst like an over ripe melon when it smashes into the cage in an accident!! Unless you have it correctly padded and you are wearing a helmet!!

The question is badly worded, IMHO.
Yes, they look right, in fact they are mandatory, in competition cars.
No, they look 'boy-racerish' in road cars or 'make-believe race and rally cars, apart from the dangers of having them other than when wearing a crash-helmet.

Still dangerous even when wearing a helmet unless there is padding on the cage, hence why the MSA specify it around the head area.

As above, great for competition, potential killer in a road car.

If they are dangerous to us even if we are wearing a helmet why do ravers have them as a safety feature, and they where helmets. Surely they are safe ins road car because they add strength to the car.

They are dangerous when wearing a helmet if there is no padding. Normally in a race car no padding around head area = no racing

It's 'one of them' isn't it.

You can't predict what accident you may have. In some cases the cage will save your life, in some it may cause more damage to you. I'd be interested to know the actual statistics, but I suspect that they don't exist.

My personal feeling is that a properly padded cage will be safer in almost all case even if you don't have a helmet on. But a paddded cage is not as sexy as an unpadded one. I think the word dangerous' in this thread is a little missleading. Remember the MSA allow rally cars to drive between stages without the occupants wearing helmets.

MSA regs actually specify padding the cage where any part of the body is likely to hit it in an accident.
