Bought this engine off a good friend, after taking the head off, there's some rust on 1 bore. After a light rub with 2000 grit wet and dry, this is what I have.

Some areas I feel ever so light imperfections, im thinking rebuild time?

You need to measure it to get a full picture of what you actually have.

Looks ok to me. Get and put it back together and find out. Could go on and on, you will find out and could be cheaper not needing a big fix. Check the head and the valves are air tight.

Going to strip it, and take it to a machine shop when I get time, see what they think, hoping a light hone and new rings will be ok.

It's just a 998 - run it and see what happens. It's not worth spending a lot on 998 engines. Plenty out there - sometimes even free!

Yes but im wanting to paint the engine and get it reliable. Dont want to go to alot of time and effort for it to go bang.

Im going to get it measured up and hopefully a hone and new rings will solve it.
