I have an auto oil pump that has a slot drive, its from a metro auto engine, the slot is twice as wide as the manual one, did they do a manual one with a wider slot also?

I have converted an auto engine to manual but im thinking i ned to put a manual cam in as I cant find a pump to fit the standard auto cam

The auto cam is no different to a manual cam in the slot in the end... the auto pump is more robust than the manual as it has a lot more work to do...

Bet you had fun converting the auto engine to run a manual !!

Ive never done anything with engines before, when I offered the manual pump up to the slot in the auto cam it seemed to be really sloppy in the slot, but since ive never done it before maybe thats how they are? Its a metro A plus engine, the only thing what confused me is the tongue on the auto pump is much wider just seemed to be un-natural for the small tongue one the manual pump to fit in, but im not sure

Ill be honest it wasn't too bad, the dip stick hole was pretty easy, the trickiest part is drilling that oil-way to meet the pump for the pressure relief

Rebuilt the manual box thats going on it, watched your video on youtube, so thanks for making that its a good one!

The only reason I converted it is because I got the engine for free and had no use for it with he auto box on so thought id convert it, if I do another ill definitely get a manual

unless you know exactly what you are doing and are proficient with engineering equipment, it will be easier to just buy a manual block, as you have to drill virtually new oil holes for the oil pump, and machine a spacer for the manual oil pump

I will put some pictures up when its all back together , yes there are two holes to drill and fit a new spool, spacer, manual pump etc, few more things

Ive never built an engine before that's why I wanted to know about the cams, I had the engine given so I didn't see any point in buying another when I could convert that one

Thanks! Haha no better not forget that otherwise be no point in the whole thing lol! Guna put a central pickup back in, the layshaft is only slid in on that pic just for the photo really havent bolted the locking plate in yet

you sprayed it inside?? id get the paint off on the inside, it will falke off when the engine is running and go in your oil. dont know if it woudl cause anything catestrofic but it could block the oil pickup starving the engine of oil. not good!

very very nice! in that case that must have been very nice to build up, not having to worry about getting rubbish in it, as you could spot any a mile off! :)

Yeah It was nice putting it back together, really awkward to blast though making sure to get in all the places , I tried a couple of different grains of beed, the rough stuff seemed to pit it so I went to the finest grain we had comes up real nice

Just got to make sure any excess sand is blasted out with compressed air after, out of any cavities etc, you can imagine the consequence's of a fine grit in the engine!

naa should be fine!

so are you actually going to mod an auto engine to work on a manual?? there is a rough guide in that mini world spin-off mag, how to fix your mini. but you do have to have a spacer between the block and the oil pump. looks to be approx 1/2" thick. you can buy if off guys in america

Seen that happen in a gearbox before, was not pretty. The bearings didn't last very long to say the least!
