hello guys i have just connected my gear linkage and i seem to have no gears, the gear stick seems to be real lose and floppy where 1st & 3rd should be and really hard to pull back to 2nd & 4th. when it is pulled back with two hands nothing happens the car can be rolled forwards and backwards with no resistance at all, just in case this could be the problem the car is not running at the moment but it should still go into gear right ? every other car iv had did
also the rod that goes into the gear box and connects to the linkage by roll pin had been pulled out when the engine was removed from another car could this be in the wrong position ?
any help would be great as iv spent so much time doing this car i dont wont to give up now

Hmmm, possibly you need to remove the gear stick... undo the pin that goes through the gear rod at the engine and rotate the rod 180 degrees, then put the pin thing back through, then put gear stick back in and try again. There is a ring of sorts inside the gear selector where the gear stick sits, the ring needs to be at the bottom (as far as I can remember). If you remove the gear stick and the pin thing at the engine, then get back in the car you will be able to rotate this ring inside the gearselector box and see what i mean, but it is more easily done underneath the car when you remove the pin.... 10minute job to find out

It MIGHT be this, but i think when I have had this before I have had forward gears but no reverse... but worth a look, especially if you have had it apart..

Bad news!! that bit should not come out!!...you will need to take the engine out and seperate the gearbox from the engine..then you will need to rebuild the selector mechanism..A very big job...but easy done, just time consuming and a pain in the ar$e..

Click on my project link below and the info you need is on the first few pages...step by step with loads of pictures, Hope it helps.

No secial tools really..Just the normal mini stuff..a good socket set and flywheel pullers..You will need a full gasket set of course, for the rebuild..Nothing to be frightened of in there if you take your time..Guesworks on here is the gearbox guru if you get stuck. I learnt by following his guides..top bloak as well, who can supply any bits you might need..

Will I get a discount now John...lol.
