My mini is shaking, vibrating, lagging making a wuring sound, smells strange, backfireing does not aclerate untill 2500 rpm and stinks of fule! what is wrong with it? i have changed my spark plugs, distributer cap, HT leads but nothing seems to work? colud it be a head gasket?

Pleas help.

sounds like a timing issue to me dude causing the lack of acceleration and backfiring, best get the timing light out and give it a check as a start before investigating the head gasket.

i have checked the haynes manule and that sugests that it could be the carb, flooding or leaking. and it only happeded yesterday adter the rallying. i might try a new carb.

sound expensive just to get a different carb without knowing the exact problem? might still happen after and you'll of wasted your money

i wnrt to avon dasset neer Banbury last night at about 11.00 in my rally mini special. there was a bit that had loads of small lumps, about 1m high and there were hundreds in a row, i was getting air off them and i got stuck and smashed back end into a pot hole, there were awsome gravel tracks with massive drops one onse side. on my way home she was pulling left, vibrating and missfireing, but it was awsome!

well u did post this the other day so im not surprised somethings knackered to be honest. it may have been awesome, but was it really if your car is now poorly?

i have discovered that it is the timing, i am fitting twin su's any way. the rallying only bent the front panle below the bumper and bent the tie rods, but i have fixed it now.

cool place shame about your Mini, sounds like the bumps and stuff possibly dislodged the dizzy and buggered up your timing!

Mine does it when i let off my throttle for a bit and then press it again it jumps then carries on... its not nice at all. Feels like the engine is going to get ripped off the bulkhead.
