Saw a nice mini at L2B recently, white with TRIPLE FRONT WINDSCREEN WIPERS ! dont know if they worked but looked demn good. :shades: After a little bit of research Particuarly on kit cars came across an article that a guy fitted a third wiper on a set up not too different from a mini set up. All he did was too drill a new bezel hole in the middle of the two existing ones and then dismantled the existing set up and cut the guide tubes to fit the new centre wiper! Flared them and put em back on, Sounds simple enough to do. Before I barge in and DO IT MESELF as anyone done this? / thought about doing this? or can add any advice before i start boring out holes and dismantling me wipers only to find out that its NOT THAT EASY!!! :shy:
CHEERS FOR LOOKING :highfive: ps cutting the holes is easy if u use a 25mm aerial hole cutter.

It's just if the wiper motor is up to it - more resistance

some times used on lower window screens

Hi

I had a play with my wipers when I wanted them opening from the middle out to each side, and just bear in mind you lose a bit of pipe length when you flare it, so mark where the middle wiper mech will go then add on an 1/8th to allow for the flared end. Apart from that picture when done : )

Mate.....so much easier to do than I thought......
1 marked exactly between wipers, note that this may not be the centre of yer hood
2 take out wiper motor and drive, drill hole, put in new bezel, back together again blades on job done...lol :highfive:
hardest bit was lining up wiper blades.....will post a few pics and when I get round to it add another washer

just edited this so you could see em now oooops

I did as I sit in the middle wipers that both park in the middle and open outwards, but trouble is the mini wiper motor is not really up the the added strain. Its fine if its raining but try washing the screen on a dry day and they open and close while the screen is wet, but once dry they have trouble parking right down. I've been looking at more powerful motors but its making a mating plate to fit them to the gearbox. Now thinking of going for just one in the middle.

:)

You use the slave gearbox on one side the other way around (not sure which)

almost like using a RHD rack on a LHD car - the wheels steer the other way

because the pinion is on the other/wrong side of the rack

the problem is getting one to move before the other so they don't clash

I think that makes sense ?

I'd also check your extra wheel box won't foul your air filter.

Both wipers parking in the middle would be a lot harder, the blades will collide if attached to wheel boxes, especially ones of equal diameter. You'd need the higher blade to rotate faster because the tip of the lower blade will have more speed, being further from its pivo,t than the bit of the upper blade in its path. You'd need to work something out with separate, offset, cranks - like the engine crank takes the piston from rest to maximum acceleration and back to rest on every stroke.

does this improve visibility at all or is it just a cosmetic mod?

Can't see it doing much for visibility, do you notice any difference where the 2 you have overlap?

Some more common applications, if your windscreen is a lot wider than it's tall.
