I have got Omega pistons in the block but would like to know how to tell them apart, the only thing i noticed was a couple of numbers on the inside of the piston skirt before they were refitted.
Would these possibly indicate a casting or forging number, i am just curious but not duly worried as they are Omega,s which have a good reputation.
Any comments or info gratefuly appreciated.

you have to look at the inside of the pistons not a machined surface, cast pistons have a rougher finish than forged its hard to tell without pictures, i had the same problem recently when was sold a short block with 'forged' omegas that where actually cast but the seller didnt seem to understand or care, you could probably tell from the numbers marked on them but i struggled to find any concrete info

Cheers for the reply, i did notice that the inside of the piston and skirt were quite smooth when i was checking for any identification numbers, do you think Omega would be able to check the numbers and come up with an answer, as i bought a complete set of rings of them but did,nt remember to ask them at the time.

I think that Omega cast pistons are 'squeeze cast' which is almost as good as forged. In fact some say they are better for certain applications. Omega are great anyway so don't worry about it.
