1993 1275 HIF38 carb with minispares stage 1
what should the timing setting be? Done a search, cant find anything definitive
Haynes says 5 deg BTDC + 1deg 1500rpm - what does the +1 deg bit mean?
Is it easy to do yourself as thinking of getting a light?
Thanks in advance
Paul

+1 means it's got a tolerance of +1 degree and -0 degrees. You always get a +/- mentioned in specs for tuning or assembling and its about tolerances. Have a look at some of the other specs, they say things like +0 -2 and stuff like that.
It's easy to do yourself.
Remember that the quoted figure is for an engine in standard tune, you have changed the tuning by fitting the stage 1 kit. Minispares won't quote a definitive timing figure for your engine when fitted with the kit for reasons far too numerous to go into here, they will tell you that your car should be tuned on a rolling road after fitting the kit. When this is done, ask the operator what the ideal timing setup is for your car and he will tell you so that you can check it hasn't drifted in the future.
