Hopefully this is for someone who does MOT's!!!!

on the top of my wing i have a rust hole. it is right by the headlight at the front of the wing.

Will this pass an MOT if it is just taped over (yes thats right with Bodge tape!!!). I will replace the wing but it would be handy to have an MOT first.

Also the A panel has a lot of bubbles in it but it does seem fairly solid when i push it.

Thanks Guys for the help

Matt

I can take pics if it will help.

If i go by this statement:

"Any part of a load bearing member, or load bearing panelling within a 'prescribed area', should be rejected if it is weakened by corrosion to the extent that"

then it is ok because it isnt a load bearing part, is it?

here is a pic. As you can see i have done a high quality job, not only with the "force" but also the quality photoshop circling

probably. But...... a picture paints a thousand words. (In other words, I'm not saying yes but not saying no!!!!)

EDIT: Sneaky editing there Miniboo!

I'd tape it inside, and put some filler on it. It looks better to the MOT man and shows a bit of intent that you will fix it. He'll be happier!

if you are gonna replace the wing anyway could you not get a small piece of steel and weld the patch over the hole or even pop rivet it quick and dirty but it would probally pass an mot. can anyone comfirm?

I thought as long as there are no rough or sharp edges you are ok?

I've known cars pass MOT's with tape over allsorts of things !!!!!!

Unfortunately that should pass an MOT! lol :dontgetit:

I say unfortuantely because it'll mean there'll be taped up cars everywhere now following the trend!

The 'prescribed areas' are basically anywhere within 30cm of a structural component mount (ie, if the rusty hole was near a seatbelt mount or a steering/suspension mount point). As the top of the front wings is not truly a structural member it will pass!

I can see the 'badger' having a big circular 'cooling vent' drilled into the top of that wing, that'll make it look like it was meant to be there and stop the rust spreading until the wing is replaced. lol

Thought for the day:

In some ways though, the wing actually is a structural member due to the design of the mini shell and the way the front subby is mounted but that's just my thinking on it. Iy you have ever had to replace two front wings, you will see how much more 'flexible' the front end is when you have cut them off, even with the front panel still welded to the inner wings.

Disclaimer:
I aint said nuffin, what I might have said could have been wrong, if anyone asks, you aint seen me. Right?

I would advise using black gaffa tape though and maybe trying to sneakily smear some vaseline into the testers eyes so he can't see so well! :D
