Take your rocker cover off , take your spark plugs out and remove the dizzy cap turn the engine clock wise untill no 7 & 8 rockers are just rocking ie loose this will mean no 1 cylinder is at TDC you rotor arm should be pointing at 2 O clock, if it is pointing at 8 O clock all is not lost, the rotor goes anticlockwise so make 8 o clock no 1 and 3.4.2 as you go around

yes old carb no altered nothing engine size 998 only differance old engine low compresion new one high compresion could be big thing ?

firefox set it at number one plug slighy off instead of 2 oclock it is midway between 3 oclock

well if it is pointing in the right direction you now need to set the timing, have you a strobe light

i think irostoke will be able to talk you throuh better than i can, mine is electronic

if your not sure if the timing is right but think its somewhere near..
then slacken the dizzy pinch bolt slightly enough so you can move the dizzy with a bit of resistance.

Whilst somebody is turning the key, move the dizzy round clockwise and anticlockwise...you should hit a spot where it feels like it will run. don't touch the leads :) slightly damp and you could get a belt off it

Helps give a bit of choke from cold.

once running can then set more accurately

i think you advance the dizzy until the revs insrease then back it off 3/4 degrees , then drive it and see if it runs ok if not just alter either way a little untill satisfied
