Hello all,

As you can probably tell i am new to this forum, (Signed up a few weeks ago) and i am pretty clueless about the world of Mini's

Basically, i am looking for a mini as my first car, possibly even a little project!!

But the problem is... i have no idea what to look out for, i assume that a 998cc of some sort will be my best option (and cheapest insurance wise) for when i turn 17

But i have no idea about different models, specifications etc etc, all i do know is that it will have to be a manual gearbox

So any information will be greatly appreciated!

many thanks,

Nick

i was in the exact same position as you about a year ago. i started watching ebay for minis close to me and when we saw a good one we went and had a look. luckily the first one we looked at was perfect and i won it for £1000! for a good mini, i'd be looking at around that sort of price, but it may take a while to find one that is right for you. if you want a project, you can always get one later as you will be very busy with learning to drive etc.

Read around forums etc. to gain some general knowledge.

Basically for your first car (project or runner), look for NO rust! That costs the most to repair and is the biggest pain in the behind. I guarantee that it will turn you off from your project and workign on your car if you rush into buying a car and end up with something C**p.

You don't say how old you are or how much you plan to spend (therefore no idea of your time and money plans for this project). If you've got a few years and want to work on the car while learning, I'd get a project that has had it's body work done, and is rolling with 95% parts to complete it (i.e. engine, may be a non runner depending on your requirements, subframes, brakes, interior glass etc.)

It all depends on what exactly you want from the car, and how much you want to spend.

Either way welcome and feel free to ask any questions. We've all been in your position at some point! :D

Thanks for that, I am 16 at the Moment but i'm looking to buy a mini ASAP as i have a place to store it etc etc and i would like to make some changes to it, im looking to make it handle Well, speed doesn't bother me because nothing is fun in a straight line....

Money wise - it totally depends, im not sure how much a set of shocks+ wheels will cost but in all i would say i will have around 1200-1500

But if i can get one which already has some performance upgrades on it then that would be a bonus..

Realistically i will be driving in a year so would like the car ready for then.

the help is much appreciated

Hello Tom

I ride Mini motocross (honda crf50) but i'm thinking of selling up and buying a road monkey bike until i have a mini Sorted

I am quite involved with the Offroad side off monkey bike's but i am pretty new to the concept of road monkeys

But if it's 4 stroke and mini...... im interested :D
