hi have seen some great hinges that i want to fit to my flip front but i dont want to have to bolt them on and have ugly bolts through the bonnet, is there a way to attach metal to fibre glass so that it is strong enough to hold the weight of a front?
cheers
Neil

Tiger seal the hinges on then fibre glass over them once the tiger seal has set. Thats what i'd do anyway.

It's a beast of legend, like a Manticore but made of a tiger and seal, obviously! ;D

It's a bonding mastic, a little bit like "no more nails", Sikaflex is another one.

Resins make good mechanical bonds, rough up everything, even drill holes, then bond it under a piece of chopped strand matting with at least a couple of inches overlap. Polyester resin, even better - epoxy, will give a more solid join, but sticking it with tiger seal first will stop the hinge moving while you lay up the glass.

A good method is to use Big Head fasteners, which are designed to be bonded into the GRP, and come in various designs with male or female thread, so the metal bits can be unbolted when required.

I don't think they sell direct in small quantities, but they are available from East Coast Fibreglass Supplies, as is everything else that you would need to bond them in.
