G'day guys,

I just wanted to say hi and that you'll probably be hearing a lot from me in the future....probably cries of help.

I very recently bought my first project car, a '67 Cooper S.

Basically 20 years ago the previous owner stripped her, cut the rust out and resprayed her but never got round to putting her back together. I now own a Cooper S shell (in great condition), all of its parts (in many boxes) and have also bought a complete '67 Cooper for parts.

I've never worked on a car before and have zero mechanical experience. Obviously I do not expect to have her back on the road for a good couple of years as I want to do as much as I can myself.

I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a sort of project guide or any documentation that lists the order in which you should preferably rebuild a Mini from the shell up? Any links or sites I should visit or books I should buy?

My first point of call is to fix the rear drum brakes as they have both seized. Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts on the best way to do this.

Anyway I listed a few pics below of the cars in their current state.

Cheers,
Stu

Welcome! You could buy a 'Haynes Manual' for the car. Not sure if they would have been published in Oz but theres plenty around over here.

If only we had cars in that good shape over here. Certainly wouldnt buy a Cooper just for spares!

Good luck!

Another good site is www.ausmini.com Not as many members as theminiforum, but much better for technical questions.

Thanks guys.

My New Years resolution is to attack the mini this year and make a proper start.

I wanted to start with something a bit more basic and reassemble the doors. ausmini.com has a good how to guide on how to dismantel the door but I'm yet to find anything on reassembling it. Do you guys know if any one has produced a how to guide on this?

assembly is the reverse of the disassembly! :P

There is another australian forum, smaller again than ausmini. not much in the way of how to's yet but we are a friendly, knowledgable bunch. link is in my signature.

Haynes manuals are available here. If you send me your email address I can hook you up with a pdf version of it, although it is missing a chapter or two for some reason!!!

Cheers

Tim.
