Fitted cleaned up pistons +.40 with new rings, honed the block myself.

Crank shaft is +0.10 with 0.10 mains new. spins by hand ok and end end float done.

Big ends +0.10 with 0.10 new bearings. spins ok.

Now i have a fair amount of resistance when i spin the crank over and have to use a spanner in the crank end slot it will not move by hand, it also has a preasure resisance as i can hear the hissing sound .

Now if it is at tdc the crank will rock a little with no resisance it only when the pistons start to move in the boars.

Is this right????

I did gap the rings and they where ok

Its fine..there is supposed to be resistance..at TDC the pistons are changing direction so the resistance is negligable..The only thing to wory about is the end caps are on the right way round. but you would know if they were..as it would prob not turn at all..

The way to check the rotating assembly is build it with no rings. The rotate, this should be easy by hand. With rings a spanner will be needed.

Thank you for the reply's, i did do a test run first with no rings and it did turn over quite smooth.

It was the hissing sound that had me worried but i now have found it was the foam matting i had it sitting on and making a seal and it was the air escaping from that !!
