I'll be as quick as I can, but there's a few bits to explain.

This is rear suspension.

Car was on original suspension (all original), was sitting very low, couldn't have any passengers or got arch rub a bit and MASSIVE arch rub on the corners.

This afternoon (6 fecking hours) I finally managed to destroy the old cones and get them out where they were seemingly welded in by God. Put the new hi-lo's in (good quality, minispares I think), put the new Gaz dampers in (let's not talk about how difficult it was), re-fitted the petrol tank (which I brimmed full last night, what a twát).

Car was sat great, a bit too high at the rear but so much better, four fingers between outer arch and wheel. Put the tools away, drove down the road on a test run, thought I could hear slight scraping. Pulled in to the next side road so I could go back home and investigate, MASSIVE amounts of arch rub. Went over a speed bump and heard a huge bang as I did.

3 point turn, came home, back on the drive (2mph all the way home) and the outer arches are almost sat on the wheels now.

Massively disappointed, heartbroken and depressed. Feel like either selling it or setting fire to it in a local field seeing as the tank is full.

Once I put the new cones, hi-lo's and new knuckles (with the little rubber cup on them) in place, I wound the threads about an inch of thread on show each side, seemed fine. Took the passenger side wheel off when on my drive, everything looks fine.

When I jack the car up, then put it back down, the car sits high like it was when I first did it? If I stand on the door step and jump up and down, the car then sinks back to arches on wheels. It's not springing back up or anything.

Anyone have any ideas? I have a load of pics if they'd help.

I took the wheel off and the cone looked like it was in the same place as the last one around the lip on the inside. The pics on my SLR, I'll upload after I've ate dinner and calmed down.

Did you replace the actual rubber suspension "springs" ? As if you just added hi-los you'd probably be no better off than when on static alloy cones, I guess compressing them more would make things worse. I replaced my old rubber springs with metal coil springs and hi los.

Sorry for triple post, the assembly I replaced is above the Haynes manual, also replaced the shock. What I put in is the same as I took out. I removed on each side: Rubber doughnut, alloy trumpet, knuckle.

One thing I can't remember is whether or not I removed the old knuckle cups, if there were any, but surely this would make the car sit even higher? Not lower.

wind it out more and see what happens, every time you jack the car up (with the trolley jack) you disturb the suspension, in effect opening the suspension up. just drive down the road which will settle it and then recheck the hight

If you still have the old trumpets, set the length of the hi-lo the same and use that as a starting point.

measure from where ball joint fits to where it makes contact with the rubber cone.

Right well I'll have to just adjust them all the way out, although for some reason the damper won't extend very long so I can only get about 1/8th of a turn at a time, going to take hours.

Joy of mini's.
