What is the difference between the 2? What years came with which? How do i know which one i have?

pre 84 non ballast, after that ballast...although injection use a different coil.

ballast coil works at a lower voltage, but when the starter motor is spinning a byepass wire supplies more voltage to the coil giving a fatter spark for starting.

Non ballast are full 12v and in theory the voltage to the coil actually drops when the starter is spinning because of the load the starter puts on the electrics..so potentionally giving a weaker spark when trying to start. I run a 12v coil and no issues starting.

If the coil positive as a white/pink and a white/yellow wire, then its ballasted
