I was fitting an Sw10 today and realised something that to me was a bit odd.

I had a quick look at the sheet before fitting it, noting that it was to be timed between 106 and 108 deg, so I set about finding my lobe centres and timing it as I would have any other cam. No problems there but after when I was tidying my bench I had a closer look at the cam sheet and realised that the degree quoted was at maximum lift not in fact a lobe centre timing.
Im a tad miffed. I have never fitted a cam before that has not been supplied with a lobe centre timing. Im wondering if this is a mix up in terms used and they mean lobe centre at 107 or they literally mean time the cam at the max lift point on the push rod...

My question is.. Are people with Sw10s on here timing them for 107 at lobe centre or at max lift point?

Use the Lobe centre.

Thanks for your quick reply. Just to be clear are you saying use the 107 deg as the timing for the lobe centre. Sorry but I have a history of grabbing the stick at the wrong end.

Cheers

Dale.

Dial it in at 107° lobe centre because it could be an asymmetric profile camshaft, or its just because they quote the LCA as a convention.
The SW10 is a great camshaft, weel worth it to spend some time on the timing.

Thanks Jaydee. The method of timing is no problem at all, well seasoned in that one. The question was is the 107 deg that they quote as Max valve lift actually a lobe centre timing. As you rightly point out the Sw10 is very defiantly an asymmetric profile and I think its very odd that the cam was not supplied with a Lobe centre timing. I think I have enough evidence to treat the 107 as a lobe centre timing. Just really wanted to be sure as there is a very big difference.

Thanks for your help.

Dale.
