Fitted my new engine finally, just got to put the rest of her back together.
It's a metro 998, took the head off as I'm fitting a 12g head on and found a set of flat tops. So I thought great, then I was going to change my cam shaft too, only to find a Kent 266 fitted. What a bonus.
The only thing is I know nothing of the piston, but they have the markings 21964 G8. Are they any good?

That's a nice find. I wish my 998 had a surprise like that. The pistons will be fine for a fast 998 aslong as they are not damaged. What's your final drive ? Mine turned out to be a 3.6 which was nice for acceleration.

I wouldn't get too excited, most a+ 998s have flat top pistons as standard.

It's true tho, there's also nothing special about the metro 998s they are still the same A+ unit...

So a standard A+ would have had these pistons off the line. No wonder they are better engines.
Well it will have a bit more poke than the 1098 that was in there previously.

The engine has flat top pistons and a ducellier dizzy which I heard were used in metros??
Is this my standard engine or has it been changed??

Well i guessworked my engine number, apparently its a mini A+. Final Drive is 3:105:1 is this any good ??
Sorry for the thread Hi-Jack >_<

Nope it'll be standard, Austin rover went through a faze in the mid 80s of fitting the rubbish ducellier dizzys.

It's pot luck on the dizzies, they did have an assembly plant in Belgium, I'm not sure if all the Ducelliers were fitted there. There were 2 flavours of 998 A+, the standard one was low compression (dished pistons and a 3 into 1 exhaust manifold). The HLE version has the flat tops and a cast version of an LCB. The latter was used in City E Minis, without the exhaust manifold.
