it sometimes happens to me when i leave the choke on by accident so its still got fuel in the carb
Leaving the choke on? Not the best thing to do, even by accident.

Before stopping, put it in gear, push the brakes and slowly depress clutch as you turn the engine off, this is a good 'work around' to the problem.
A decoke to the cylinder head may cure the problem, which can be caused by wrong mixture/ingition.
Even a modified cylinder head with 'hot spots' on the chambers may cause the problem.

push the brakes and slowly depress clutch as you turn the engine off
You mean lift the clutch. Depress = press.

I think mine has an anti-run-on vale that dumps loads of air into the bores when its turned off to dilute the remaining fuel and air.

Or if it's a carburettor engine then make sure the choke linkeage on the carburetor isn't sticking, mine did and this caused the idle to be too high. This caused it to run on (making the Mini engine shake the way you described).
