hi all, i've found some twin hs4's up for sale on an a series manifold and i was wandering if they are too big for 1030 mini ? would they offer any power gains over twin hs2's ? would they make the engine more thirsty over twin hs2's ?

cheers

Rhys

Not worth it unless you're running a mental spec..
Siply because it will be slightly over-carbed, it will be a pain to keep em tuned.

carbs dont loose tuning settings. once they're set, they're set. Its more the point that two would be too large for that size and spec of engine.

And then go out of tune.
Try to balance twin HS4 on a 998 ;)

Ah ok i take it you set them too rich at first.
And remember, the AFR is sensitive to athmosferic pressure and temperature, an oversized carb setup cant stay in tune.

I have twin hs4's on my mg metro 1293 with 1.5.1., this is deemed by many as "overkill" and yet to me it felt better than the single HIF44, sounded better, increased throttle response, and believe it or not....improved mpg!

On a 1293, twin HS4's are perfect (the setup i'm aiming for) but on a 998, twin carbs of that size are far too much.

The original small bore coopers ran 1" 1/4 carbs for a reason.....they were the right ones for the job.

Tiny twin HS2 are NOT a good set-up for a 998 engine.... A single 1.5" carb (HS4 or HIF38) is better - on a GOOD inlet manifold - better still if it is 'Vizardised'.....read the book to see what's involved.
