OK, I'm new. I just got a propper Mini, right hand drive. I fell in love with them in 1965 on my first trip to Europe. I can still remember them zipping around when I went to London. I named her Gracie. She is a 1978 Mini with a 1996 Fuel inj. 1275 MPI engine. She is my "Bucket Car". Most problems that come up, I can work on. I need somwhere to start on this one. She was running fine. Then I noticed after warm up she would not stay at 1000RPM when I came to a stop. I have to keep the RPM over 1000 to keep it from going dead. The RPM just drops off and goes dead. She was made in England then went to Japan. I do have A/C on it. It goes dead with or without the A/C on or off. I do have another problem. This is the only Mini like this in Mobile Alabama. The ladies smile at me, wave, pull me over to take pictures, want to sit in her, and give me their phone number... This problem is fine with me.. Thanks for any help. Charly.

Try cleaning your IACV.
Did the trick for me.

I'll bet you a pound she isn't.
I'm not well up on the Mini injection system but in more general terms that sounds like an air-flow sensor to me. It sounds like on the initial start when it's running in open loop mode it's not too bad but when it tries to go into closed loop mode it all goes pear shaped because the ECU is getting the wrong info from somewhere.

Lain... you might win that pound because I do have the "96" engine in it. On the other hand, I'm trying to keep it all Brit! I would not even think of driving a new so-called Mini. If it's not all BRIT.....It ain't Sh#@ !!
