Firstly thanks to all the many responses I had on my mini questions to date, I eventually got it running sweet with after there being multiple issues to resolve including valve clearances, carb and ignition. Without this forum I would have been well and truly f***ed. Its a modified engine 1330, single hif44, high lift cam, stage 2 head. Donor car a mini mayfair. Donor engine/gear box 1992 low milage cooper.

My attention has now turned to other issues including the speedo and temp gauge. First question is the speedo seems considerably out. A reading of 100mph is nearer 70mph and it will pull off the clock at 120mph. If only this were true ! Whats not right ? What is it I need to address this ? Wheels are 15".

Secondly, the temp guage seems wired up correctly but I dont think its working as the movement in it from cold to hot is nominal ! The sender seems to be a GTR 143, im kind of thinking its maybe the guage as im not sure of their general reliability ! Smiths. Any advice ?

15" tires? How? Whenever you change tire/wheel sizes and/or the final drive in the gearbox you are going to introduce speedometer errors. Give us a bit more information on what you know to be on the car. What is the final drive in the gearbox. What is the exact size of the tires (written on the sidewalls). Look over the speedometer face for a 3 or 4 digit number by itself... not part of the serial number. Let us know what that number is.

I don't understand the problem you are trying to describe with the temperature gauge. What exactly is it doing or not doing?
