Hello there!

whats the usual cost of an engine rebuild for a 1275? how much is a decent cam likely to set me back? what is the most cost effective route to a NA circa 100bhp lump?

thanks in advance!

Craig

My bf rebuild my 1275 in Novemeber... i think i ended up spending about a grand, grand and a half in total.

Not sure how much the cam was specificaly, I'm thinking £80 for some reason. I'll see if I can dig out my receipts and I'll let you know.

Each rebuild is different and the cost will depend largely on what you replace/reuse, and if you go for the best of the best or not.

you can get a fully built stage 3 1293 for under 1500 from minisport.... so im guessing a rebuild shouldnt be that much! cams are around 60-100, depends what sort of cam you want.

if you want more power out of your lump and your getting it rebuilt anyway then think about getting it bored out as long as the blocks up to the job. saves having to get new pistons etc later on.

i might be talking balls, seeing as im not that experianced but i hope i helped a little

All depends what condition the engine is in and if you want to up to cc, but looking at your post if you're after 100 at the fly, then you need to be looking at 1330/1380 with a 1/2 decent head and cam. If you are getting a new cam, also look to buy new followers. Also budget for new oil pump, water pump, possibly mains, big ends and thrusts and possibly a crank regrind, If you're upping the CC then new pistons aswell.. when your up to that level it actually works out cheaper to buy an engine kit from the likes of Morspeed/MED etc etc..
