Hey all,
My names shane and i have recently invested in my first ever mini; a 1988 auto mini city-e which i am hoping to restore.
after finding her on gumtree for £300 i took a road trip with the mrs and veiwed the beuty and never the less she had seen better days but hey-ho that the whole fun of it (being a challenge).
After a bit of haggling i got the price down to £250 and found a resonably priced courier to transport her to my mrs's garage in harlow for £85, i finaly have her.
Firstly i looked at her thinking right where to start so firtly i inspected the rust in further detail and although extensive there were only a few major points that i can see wich are the boot floor (which has a rarther large hole in) the drivers and passengers sills and the drivers side wing which due to rust has came away from the part were the door hinges attach to.
then i hucked up a battery to her and tryed turning her over and the starter moter clicked in but nothing further but then my mrs made a good surgestion 'has it got fuel' so upon looking at the tank i realised that it wasnt connected and was actualy sat in the back seat which made me chuckle. i also found out at that point that the tank needed a different key to the car which put the mrs into a laughing fit.
so i then proceded to start stripping the car and after taking two windows and all the seats out i thought to my self i should realy do things in a certain order so as i was watching tv with the mrs i thought to my self what needs done and in what order so i came up with this :

Strip whole car
Remove windows
Remove engine (lift needed)
Jack up rear
Remove rear wheels / Subframe / shocks /wishbones / brake drums and shoes / all assoiciated bushes
Inspect and renew or renavate
Paint and replace
Jack up front
Remove front wheels / subframe / shocks / track rod / wishbones / brake disks and pads /all associated bushes
Inspect and renew or renavate
Paint and replace
Send shell for welding /replacing (transport needed)
Send shell for ETCH primer and painting (airbrush 'Sally' to wing) (transport needed)
Strip doors/ boot/ bonnet
Send doors/ boot/ bonnet for paint
Overhaul engine and asosiated items
Strip
renew worn/ damaged items
Renew all gaskets
Paint
Check all elctrics for continuity
Replace windows
Remove grafiti and clean windows
Renew window seals
Renew windscreen (due to crack)
Overhaul and refit boot items
Renew fuel tank cap and paint tank
Purchase battery
Purchase and fit carpets ect.
Refit engine and engine compartment items (lift needed)
Replace all bushes i.e engine mounts
Overhaul and refit interior i.e dash/ seats/ wiring ect
Seats and doorcards need reapulstered
Overhaul and refit exterior trim i.e lights ect
Check oils and lubes
Pre MOT checks
First start up
Test drive
MOT
Tax
Isurence

well what do you guys think? have i missed anything? or is there anything that you think is unessesary?

Also has anyone ever used the company somerford mini? as i am thinking of using them to remove the rust weld and spray the 88'.
