Hi,

I was just wondering what would be better?

I have a 1330, with a stage 3 head, 1.5 full rockers, 286 cam, +20 pistons, not sure if there forged or not, lightened flywheel and running a Hif44 carb.

I was wondering what set up would be better, the blow through set from Slark Racing or the standard set from V-Max Scart, which will provide more power, torque and better drive-ability.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Bobby

Kappa.

Blow through.

More power from increased torque.
Better fuel economy (still not going to be great!)
drive-ability increased also i suspect. Not having driven a supercharged mini blow through or otherwise i cant confirm. But having the carb that far away from the valve throats cant be good.

Suck through is simpler, but having fuel go through the supercharger will vaporise it increasing its volume which works against the reason for fitting a charger: to cram more air 'n fuel in the cylinders. It'll also be more of a nightmare to run an intercooler.

Wouldnt fuel be an issue in the intercooler also?

You can't run an IC on a suck through.

Hello,

A suck through system is much easier to package into a standard round nose Mini and still allows easy access to service parts such as the spark plugs, and allows easy checking of the oil level (not so easy when the supercharger is in the way). You can also use a standard carb (although a new needle will most likely be required) as it will not be pressurised. Ideally you want the throttle before the supercharger as it prevents pressure build up on the throttle butterfly which can damage the charger. Therefore, if you do go with a blow through set up, you will need to have a bypass/blow off valve to prevent this excess pressure build up.

I have one of the Vmax kits and there are a few problems with it... The carb/supercharger link pipe is a fairly poor design. It attaches to the supercharger inlet with four small screws. This itself isn't the problem, the problem is how close the holes have been drilled to the edge of the supercharger inlet (you have to be very careful not to strip the threads as the charger is a soft alloy). It is also a very tight fit if you have a brake servo.

Icing can also be a problem (with any suck through system), it's obvious on the outside of the link pipe although the real problem is the carb throat icing although this can be fixed using a small electric heating element in the air filter.

The inlet manifold (after the charger) also sits on top of the exhaust centre branch. On my system this has created a dent in the top of the exhaust which will not help flow but also allows a lot of heat to be transferred to the intake charge.

Saying all that, it depends what you want from your car. You can get more power from a blow through system as it can be made to be more efficient as an intercooler can be used, it's just a tighter fit and more complex (requiring a turbo style carb and a bypass valve). A suck through system is much more simple but is not as efficient.

Sorry for the long post, hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jon.

if i started agin i would go turbo or blow .

for the money you get a really inefficient system

to make ok power but thats it .

the heat is the biggest thing with suck through .. it just gets to hot .

yes it fits under the bonnet better and is simple to do things on the motor .. but thats it
