The original car was a wreck. Mostly fitting into a couple of cardboard boxes. The shell we folded up, by hand and put in a skip.
We then started with a new Rover Sportspack shell, + doors and bonnet. All supplied and painted by Paul Ratcliffe who rebuilt the MiniWorld Cooper. The original engine was sent off to Rob Walker Engineering. Exchange 1293cc, Powemax pistons, balanced bottom end. Centre Main Strap, all new bearings. Matched with nice head (all BMC Green) . Re-con gearbox etc. Maniflow 1 7/8" full system with LCB. (Advice on engine, box etc at the time from AC Dodd) Cam- Kent 266, MiniSpares two-core super radiator, new SU HIFF 44 from Burlen etc
Meanwhile, Shell converted back to non-sportspack wings up front. Interior from the Mk1 - (looks like Mk2 to me, black vinyl). Central locking. Mk1 light conversion on the back and new lights from MiniSpares. Group 2 arches, all new chrome and lights.
2 New Rover sub frames – re-painted, proper hi-Lo's. MiniSpares 4 pots. Braided hoses all round. New Radius arms complete with spacered drums. Tech-Del Minilites. Falken 165's, polly bushes, 1.5 neg front arms. Heavy duty tie bars (adjustable) rear tracking brackets adjustable etc etc etc
Proper twin tanks - came with the 64. Smiths centre clocks refurbished by Speedy cables or whatever they are called.
Just passed MOT with no advisories. Tuned on the rolling road (8th August)by Colin at Southam Mini & Metro centre, now running perfectly with 80 Bhp at the wheels (approx 100 at the crank). All cylinders showing 180psi compression. Colin commented on what a strong engine it is.
12 months tax, which is free anyway.
Overall, a fantastic, very solid mini with all the right bits. The bootlid is rusty as it is the original 64, but there may be a new panel included in the sale (we have the original paint). Small amount of surface rust around front panel, could easily be saved.
