Just fitted new smootha ride cones. The manual says long ones on the front. Had to remove top arms to get the cone in, and needed to compress well to get the cone, adjusta ride trumpet and knuckle in. Now Mini sits with front much higher as back. Front adjusta ride trumpets are on lowest setting, rear even a bit higher than that. Am I missing something? It feels like would have been better if I fitted long ones at the back!

ok, the mini is without the engine at the mo, but even with me in the engine bay it was hardly lower!

please spread some light on this! Cheers!

I am no expert on adjusta rides, but hi lo's which are similar use the same trumpet front and rear. The only difference is that you fit a metal rod at the rear to make up the extra length. I don't think it would be possible to fit them on the front like that.

yep, the adjusta rides are all four the same, plus rear ones have a steel bar to have proper length. I am worried about the cones themselves what differ in length. I put longer ones at the front. The result is in the picture

By Cones do you mean the big blocks of rubber? Are they different front & back on smootha rides then?

Might sound a silly question but is there an engine in your car?

OP said no engine but he had stood in it.

Its just normal mate, once you get the engine in, the front will drop to a reasonable level, then allow few weeks up to three months for the cones to settle.
(PS: A mini engine + ancillaries is about 150kgs)

Missed that in the first post, when the front goes down with the engine weight, the rear will go up too.

You may be forgetting that, from the factory, Minis ride height was more like in this advert:

So with new cones it will probably sit like this for a while until they settle down.

yep thanks for answers lads, I hope all will be fine. I was puzzled by having to set rear hi los on a middle setting to gain normal clearance, while fronts with lowest setting still are extra high. lets see what will happen after the winter. The mini will be stored off now for at least until March when I will return home to complete the engine swap. Home the cones will be a bit lower.
A bit of history for my suspension . Its 1990 car, and when I replaced the cones the old - apparently original cones - looked like pancakes, only harder. I replaced those with new but seems not original cones. After one year the new cones had sagged like old ones again! Then I purchased the coilover kit. What was fine on the track like surface, but nightmare for everyday use. So after 4 or 5 years of coilovers I now had put smootha ride cones in. lets see how it works out!

My cones are now well settled in, the ride is very comfy for a mini indeed.
