Hi m8
I have found when heated, hammerite goes sort of brown and bubbles, so best avoid it on things that get hot. You can get proper high temp silver paint so best stick to that if you want to paint it.

How hot do you suppose the inlet manifold gets, if it is not the old cast iron one, in one piece with the exhaust? I suspect that the carburettor end tends to be quite cold due to fuel vapourisation (after all, carburettor icing does happen), and the engine end will be at engine head/block temperature, which is effectively that of the coolant, so usually under 120 deg C, even with a pressure cap.
In the middle, it will pick up some heat from the exhaust by radiation and convection, but even so, I seriously doubt that it gets all that hot, so I would expect most sensible paints to be able to cope.
The exhaust manifold is, of course, a very different matter, and even high temperature paint is no good there, you really need special exhaust manifold paint or one of the modern ceramic coatings.

I found celly paint on an inlet manifold is fine (providing its not all cast as one) as is most spray paint, but for some reason hammerite goes brown and bubbly when exposed to heat, and being that close to the exhaust will look crap in no time, as the areas closest to the exhaust will turn brown and nasty looking.
