Hi All,
I've got a '92 carb A+ 1275 mini and from what I can tell, a 65d distributor.
My problem is that the vacuum unit doesn't work and I'd like to get it working to try to improve mpgs a bit.
Do you think I should try to fit a new vacuum unit to my existing distributor
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160777638485?
I'm not sure if the vacuum unit will even fit my distributor or not but it looks like it might do?
or get a new 59d + coil
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220925246079?
Will the advance curve not be as suitable and if not, how much does that affect fuel economy?
If I got a vacuum unit, is it possible to change it while the distributor is on the car and without messing up the ignition timing?
I'm trying to keep costs down :)
Thanks for your time and any help!

I posted a question on here yesterday about changing the vacuum (didn't get any replies but) I changed it with the distributor in the car, no problem. I got my new vacuum from Minispares BAU5309 it looks different from the ebay one. I put a photo of part of the distributor on my post but I don't know how to do it on a reply.

As Joe says, You should be able to swap just the vac plenum. Think it's a philips screw if I remember.
I bought a 65DM4 a while ago as they're apparently it one to go for when I tuned the engine a bit (So sayeth AC). Only to find I already have one...
But it did mean I could poke about with it.

Those are your options depending on which carb you have :)

thanks joe and skortchio, I had suspected that.
I've had a reply from ebay saying that the vac unit is for a ducellier distributor which is a shame.
My only problem now is that it's £33 (?!?) before postage.
That's £33 when a new distributor with vac unit and coil is £60 on ebay, and a whole RC40 exhaust is around the same money on minispares.
Surely it's only a little case with a diaphragm in and it's still more than half the cost of a replacement ignition system
Does anyone know anywhere else that has them for cheaper? or where to get a second hand one from?
Thanks again.
