Woke up this morning to a flippin big crack in my windscreen!

Its about 8" long horizontal half way up. Must have got a chip and temp changes at night have cracked it.

Anyways good news it seems is that they are not that expensive.

Was thinking of getting the upper tinted one - anyone got one of these - any use?

Cheers

Spoke to soon. Both Minispares and Minisport are cheap but neither will guarantee delivery in one piece :-(

Shipping glass in the U.K.is probably no better or different than it is over here. While we can get windshields shipped with a guarantee, you as the buyer bear the cost of that. Over here they use oversized shipping boxes with cardboard internal support frames and often urethane expansion foam (expansion type that fills the box after the glass is inside). That box is then shipped truck freight instead of by a regular parcel carrier. The last glass I ordered cost about 1/2 as much to ship as it did to buy.

Try your local windscreen fitters. Autoglass or someone similar. They may well have a tinted screen in stock, or be able to get one quickly.

Have a look in the mini breaking section or down your local scrap yard. I had a load of windscreens I gave away a few months ago when I moved.

Sure you'd be able to get one cheap from the wanted section as well!

Or call up a mini centre and see if you can collect, possibly even from a parts supplier?

Cheers guys

I did ring Autoglass they wanted £228.16 to supply and fit!! So I asked for fitting only and it reduced to £134.00

Spoke to my local fitters and they said £40 to fit if I supply the glass but if they supplied it would be £140 all in.

Stoke isnt too far so will give Minime a call tomorrow cheers

There is also M7M minis in warrington who do second hand bits will give them a call too.

Cheers

You won't be far from Padiham (Mini Sport) or Warrington (M&M's)

Fitting a windscreen isn't too difficult - if you can sneak a few teaspoons & the washing up liquid out of the kitchen. Doing it yourself will also give you the option to tackle any rust you find lurking under the rubber.

Shop around, and phone up local mini centres (classic not new!). I'm getting a local company to do mine next month for about £120, and of course you get the guarantee it won't leak or they'll fix it!

Cost me £70 to have my screen supplied and fitted by a local company, and I had my rear screen re-fitted for that price as well because I had new rubbers .

(this was when I was respraying my car and cracked my front screen when removing

Autoglass prices are ridiculous. I rang them for a quote not knowing any better. Never again.

I have just bought a windscreen from minispares, they packaged it really well and arrived safe and sound via UPS.
They made me accept any liability for damage but for 30quid for a screen its not a massive issue.
