I need to know if any straight cut lay gear can be used with any straight cut gear set... My lay gear has broken but I'm unsure of the brand etc..I was planning on buying a new lay gear but don't know if it will be ok...
If anyone can help me identify the brand that would also help a lot, I will post some pictures ASAP
Obviously I will use one that is designed for the correct amount of syncros etc...
Any advice or help much appreciated. I am sick to death of this ear box now!

I have used this to find the ratio's in the past, which then gives an indication of what gear set it is.
Also can ypu post a pic of the layshaft, I assume this is an A+ box, but best to check.

If there's 31, then it's a clubman or 4 piece gearset as it's using the standard 1st gear, the 1st motion (4th) gear should have 20 teeth, unfortunately counting the teeth on the the laygear does not help much as most will have 15,19,23,25 teeth respectively...
If there's 29 on 1st and 19 on the 1st motion then it's a full 6 piece kit ( or ST kit ), these usually have the part number stamped on the laygear hence making it easier to identify.
It's more common to find the 4 piece kit in use in road boxes and club type competition cars, as it's a cheaper way of getting the straight cut close ratio gears.
Then it's just a matter of finding out the manufacturer, however looking at the picture I would say it is of tran-x origin or an evolution of that original design.

I have counted the teeth and this is what the crack is..
The Biggest gear on the lay gear has 25 teeth that engages with the gear set and that cog has 19 teeth
Second largest gear on the lay gear has 23 teeth, that engages with the gear set and the gear set cog has 22 teeth
The third largest gear on the lay gear has 19 teeth, that engages with the gear set and the gear set cog has 25 teeth
The smallest gear on the lay gear has 15 teeth, that engages with the gear set and the gear set cog has 29 teeth
I have the part numbers from the gears. See pics below!
If you have any idea of the brand of the lay gear or an equivalent replacement please let me know. Thanks!

The part numbers are the numbers on the paper, cheers!

otherwise you'll have to start looking in the autojumble and ebay for secondhand/nos replacements.

As they have been engraved on, this would suggest that the gears are Jack Knight.... look for JKD engraved on there too....
If they are JKD, it's a long shot that the Minispares one may work, if it does not, then you only have to buy the 5 other gears to replace the lot....

Can you give me a list of possible company's? I will contact them and see if any part numbers match up.
Cheers Andrew
