Hi, browsing the internet and came across this site.
Fascinating to read about Harry Ratcliffe's Mini-Buick - I sold him the engine, for 100 pounds. Also drove it at Aintree in a Tuesday evening test session - it was diabolical.
Harry's comment re the sledgehammer is about right!
Met Harry and his cousin John, whilst racing supercharged Morris 1000 Traveller's car in 1959. Harry was the only man bringing his car on a trailer. Fibreglass wings,
bonnet, boot lid. V.hot engine, fastest Morris 1000 in the country!
Harry and his work partner, Jeff Goodliffe, were brilliant.
I spoke with Harry's wife, Brenda, about 18 months ago. Sadly, at that time, Harry was not in very good shape, with Alzheimers.

Good grief! Welcome to this little corner of the internet, Mr Redman!
Guys, if you Google Brian Redman, it will tell you a lot about his motor racing career as a pukka Formula 1 driver and as a works driver for both Ferrari and Porsche!!
... Including how he was hospitalised "by John Cooper" when a wheel fell off his works Cooper Formula 1 car in the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix!!
Brian, we're very Mini-centric here.Did you ever race a Mini? [Oops - blush edit! Looked it up now!] Can you tell us about your Mini racing with BVRT? Or run them in period as a road car? In fact did the Cooper team have any marketing tie-up with Mini Coopers?
By the way, I too knew Jeff Goodliffe when I was racing Renault 5 Turbos in the late 1980s. He was a great guy although borrowing a can of fuel from him got me into a lot of trouble! But that's another story!
