It's coming up to that time of year again on the mini and after last years mot were the tester deliberately poked holes (witch were the drain holes) in the rear subframe with a screwdriver. And also then refusing to even be bothered to drive the mini, or in his words a pile of crap on or off the ramp for the retest.

I've also had 2 mots at one other place were I was charged £75 extra to "adjust the emissions" but they couldn't and didn't know how they had done so.
And the other was on headlamp alignment being off and the tester didn't know how to adjust them. But even so when I returned for the retest the mini never even entered the workshop, let alone the headlamps being rechecked.

The thing is i've done everything from full engine rebuilds to subframe swaps myself, so the only time the mini ever sees a garage is come mot time. But finding one that doesn't see a mini as an easy fail is proving difficult.

ASG in Biggleswade is run by a Mini expert, but he still won't pass any 'dodgy' cars if that is what is being asked.

I'm not askin for a dodgy mot, just someone to be fair and not a prick.
The attitude of the tester in all honestly stunk. Before it was even on the testing ramp the attitude was it should fail. And to then go over the underside and subframe with a screwdriver and eventually failing it on drain holes on the rear subframe that should be there anyways. Also ranting that I couldn't weld patches over them (I did and it passed anyways) because I was just some 'kid' and the best thing I could do was scrap the whole car. so hence why I want to find somewhere to ovid a repeat performance.

I had some welding done by them way back when I couldn't weld myself. Only for the mini to fail it's mot somewhere else a few months later on there £50 per hour welding, as the patches were just welded with as few a tacks as possible. Plus as one patch was in the boot the fuel tank had to come out, but when I went to pick the mini back up the boot and rear seat was swimming in petrol.

Well it seams yet again the mini is having other ideas for its yearly underbelly tickle.
After having just replaced the rear subframe (didn't need to but after last year) all new rear brakes, a small patch of welding to the rear of an original 27 year old sill and chaning the headlamps as the old ones were going rusty.
As of last night its developed a squealing noise from the o/s front witch disappears under light braking, but is worse under heavy braking.
So either a wheel bearing, CV joint or binding brake/s for me to play with.

Well I'm 99% self sufficient mini wise anyways, it's only the mot I can't do myself. But if I'm ever passing buy I'll drop in for a cuppa lol.

Well the mini finally went in for its mot today and it passed without a single advisory. So apart from the knackered, faded paint the rest of the mini is solid and mechanically sound.

But it was running far too lean at 0.5% co; witch is my fault for leaning it off too much so it would pass and the front brake pipe on the radiator side is going a bit crusty. But chatting to the tester afterwards I’ll get away with just giving it a good wire brushing and replacing it in a year or two. But given how cheap the flexi hoses are I might just replace both and the metal brake pipe sooner rather than later anyways.
