following on from my first tot rod/ride on car/pedal car thing which i was originally going to build into a postman pat van, which then turned into a vintage delivery truck thingy......

i bought another mobility scooter, a three wheeled one, and started on this trotter van.

having learned from the first one, i set to it at full speed ahead, what your looking at here is the result of 5 days (not very hard) work, if i didnt stop to talk to mates, and keep drinking tea, it would have been on ebay by now!

anyway here are some pics....

day one. scooter stripped, out-riggers fitted, and basic frame thrown on.
Posted Image

day two. wings, bonnet, and front panel added, along with some modifications to the tubes at the front. oh and the roof.
Posted Image

day three. steering mechanism basic build, and moving of control box and batteries to benind the rear wheels.
Posted Image

day four. cut roof opening, and added side panels and basic back panel, wheel arches and sunken side panels. it was a real shame to cut a big hole in that roof, the curve was perfect and it was as tight as a drum skin, i was expecting some distortion from the welding but this time it played nicely.
Posted Image

day five. made the tail light housings, and (after the pic was taken) started filling the seams and smoothing the beast out.

hope you guys like it. its actually half size believe it or not, certain things have been exagerated beyond the cprrect scale such as the curve at the back of the roof. it should only be a very slight curve, but it just looked like it had gone wrong so i increaded the curve to make it more elegent. other than that its pretty accurate size wise.

it is indeed a shame about the roof, but its for kids (me) to ride in so there needs to be good access!

the side and top of the wings is one piece either side of the car, and the bonnet with lips either side going up to the wings is another piece.

the curves in the bonnet were formed by marking out the centres of the curves on each side and then temporarily tacking a piece of tube along it, i then just pulled the sheet round to make the soft curve around the tube, and then nipped through the tacks at either end freeing the tube from the bonnet.

if you look at the picture showing the steering mechanism you can see the inside of the frame that the bonnet and wings which i used as a bit of a guide.

Because technically underneath that's still a mobility scooter, I wonder if you can take that on the public pavements?! Would be pretty epic going through Sainburys with a little grocery basket strapped on the front of it, shooing young kids and moody teenagers away, that's what most of the mobility scooter owners do around my area! (not stereotyping there by the way) Love this, following now! :D

this afternoon i managed to give it a lick of paint. and i have to day it is nice to see it all in one colour.

i need to mix up some brown paint now to flick on it with a tooth brush to create the distressed look the real one has.

i didnt make steel bumpers in the end as the steel tube i was going to use had a thick wall which would have been a little too heavy i think. instead im going to paint them on
