A friend of mine is selling is Bini JCW but before he advertises it, he has to replace the water pump.
The dealers here have you cornered with the Binis, you can only get jobs done in Seattle Washington State Portland Oregon and Sacremento California. Personally I think three thousand dollars for the job is nothing sort of usuary, Does anyone know what the approx charge is at home

Sounds a bit steep on price but see below, what year is the JCW MINI as the R53 Mk1 (Supercharged) and R56 Mk2 (Turbo) have completely different engines, also worth asking the same question on TotalMINI.com
http://www.totalmini.com/forum/
"The water pump on a Mk1 R53 MCS is bolted to the back of the supercharger, which is what actually what drives it.
In between the two is the water pump drive which consists of two fairly thin gears that mesh together. There is lube for the gears when the supercharger is assembled, but over time it appears that the lube is pulled past the shaft seal and sucked into into the supercharger. Once the "gear case" has been sucked dry, the water pump drive gears will self destruct, and you will have no coolant circulation.
As far as I know, there are no replacement gears and the water pump drive only comes with a new supercharger."

I had a water pump changed on my R56 (only a cooper though) by a local independant garage and it cost me £180 for everything (pump, all new coolant, labour), which was a very good deal especially as it took 5hours to do. It was the first water pump that my mechanic had done on an R56; he said he would have quoted at least triple that in future as he based he quote on the generation 1 MINI, which obviously is a lot easier. I knew it was a pig to get to and change on this engine, that's why I took it to the garage! At least he stuck to his word price wise.
That price is absurd though! I am unsure of the £ to $ rate, but I was willing to pay up to £500 tops for the job.
Also, try minitorque forum.
