Carb Change

my mini's engine is standard ( 998 ) apart from stage one kit,uprated engine steadys and poly bushes, i have a 1" 3/4 carb sitting in my garage do you think it would make a difference in power to justify the change , any opinions welcome

no 1 1/2 is fine for a 998 stage one kit, it wouldnt make a noticable difference

To justify an HIF44 you need a VERY good cylinder head (so something more than a standard 295) coupled with an hot camshaft. Thats where you'll notice a difference bwith such a bigger carb.
